Sunrise Camel Trek

Greet the brand new day by the light of the dawn with a sunrise camel trek over the dunes. This will take place directly from the camp, out into the surrounding high dunes and back in time for breakfast.

Duration time : 30 min to 2 hours (your choice but partly dependent on your departure time)

Camel Trek to Oasis

For two night stays, we recommend this experience. Walk with your camels across across the dry river to visit a Nomadic family and share tea with them and learn about their life.

Then ride your camel across the dunes to Obira Oasis which is set under a high dune where you can relax and play. Overall approximately 45mins walking and 90mins camel trekking. This is a full day excursion.

Lunch is available and can be a Berber Pizza (madfouna) with the nomads or a picnic lunch at the oasis.

The ultimate in romance for a special occasion – Tiziri Camp will provide you with a private dining experience. Your table will be set on top of the dunes and you can enjoy a four course dinner with wine under the stars with full waiter service included.

4WD Desert Exploration and Tea with Nomads

By mid-morning we will start a 4WD tour around the dunes. We will visit the oasis of Merzouga and Khamlia Village, where we will be able to hear Gnawa music from the local people who are descendants of ex-slaves that found their way to Morocco from Senegal via the Salt Route. We will continue on to meet desert nomads in their tents and discover their way of life. We will also visit the nearby Dayet Srji Salt Lake, which is the resting point for many kinds of migratory birds including flamingos, and is a bird lover’s paradise. Afterwards we will drive back to our kasbah, where we will be greeted with a glass of tea and have some time to relax.

Lunch at Tiziri

If you stay with us for more than one night, you may have a day relaxing at the camp and in this case, you are welcome to pre-order lunch with us.

This can be in the form of a picnic which we will set up in a shady spot in the dunes or at a table inside or out. In contrast to our dinners, our lunch menus at Tiziri are based more on traditional Moroccan food, predominantly tagines, skewered grilled meats, madfouna (Berber Pizza) and a variety of Moroccan salads and seasonal fruit salads.

The Ancient Art of Sand-Bread

Bread is sacred in Morocco and is served with every meal. The nomadic community who have always lived a wild and roaming life, have no access to a kitchen or oven. Therefore they have their own ingenious way to make bread in the desert sands. The method varies from one desert region to another and requires an elder’s experience.

Available for pre-booking is a demonstration of this ancient and traditional practice of making sand-bread. This is a dying art and one of the only nomads in this area to retain the skills will come to the camp to demonstrate this to you and of course, to share the results.

This experience also includes a proper Moroccan lunch at Tiziri featuring a fresh salad, a delicious main dish, and, of course, the sand-bread you’ve just seen prepared.
